The Monarchy is not just a title but a divine bloodline. Its status is higher than that of a leader in the “Warriors” books, as it is the direct bloodline connected to the clan founders.
The Monarchy consists of the following:
The King / Queen, AKA The Monarch
This is the highest position in a clan. Their word is law and should be followed as a divine command. The Monarch leads the clan in place of the gods. The gods choose every Monarch and grant nine lives as a divine blessing.
The King / Queen Consort, AKA The Consort
This is the mate of the Monarch; some Monarchs have multiple consorts, but most only have one. They hold no political power; however, due to their closeness to the current Monarch, they tend to be treated with more respect than the general warrior.
The Heir, the eldest child of the Monarch.
This is the next in line to the throne, though they are almost always the eldest living child of the Monarch; if the Monarch does not recognize their eldest offspring as their child, disowns them, or they perish, the title of Heir would go to the second oldest.
Prince / Princess / Royal, the legitimate offspring of the current Monarch, those in line to inherit the throne.
These are the titles given to the offspring of the current Monarch. These titles denote their relationship as legitimate children of the current Monarch. These titles exclude bastard or disowned children of the Monarch.
Other Relations
Non-Royal Blooded parent of the current Monarch, AKA The Dowager or Warrior
Consort/s of past Monarchs, unrelated to the current Monarch, AKA Warrior/s
Siblings of the current Monarch, AKA Warrior/s
Aunts / Uncles / Piblings of the current Monarch, AKA Warrior/s
Why are past royals/princes/princesses referred to as warriors rather than their past title?
This is because the Monarchy is closely tied to the gods' will. It is known that each Monarch has been accepted by the gods when given their nine lives; this blessing can not occur twice in one lineage at a time.
Think of it as passing the torch; the nine lives and will of the gods are passed from Monarch to Heir when the Monarch passes or retires. Because the title royal/prince/princess is given to those in line to inherit the throne, it is not suited for those no longer in line to inherit the throne and shouldn't be used for those who are not descendants of the Monarch. The only instance in which one of the Monarch’s siblings would inherit the throne is if the Monarch passes without having living legitimate children.
Firstborns inherit the Monarchy. Usually, at least, exceptions were made above. Unlike real-world Monarchies, the firstborn of the Heir would be second in line to the throne, not the secondborn of the current Monarch. This is the reason the Oceanblood Massacre took the lives of not just the Heir at the time but his children as well. Had this not been the case, Hawkstorm’s death would have been enough to make Howlingsea the next in line to the throne rather than Shark-kit.
