When you are not fighting for your life and territory, drama is one of the most interesting things that happens within a clan, but it must circulate somehow. Sometimes what you hear about a cat might be true, other times, it might not be...
1. To use the command, type /gossip in one of the channels. The bot will prompt you to answer some questions.
Clan:
Character:
Type:
Telling a lie (Deception)
Telling the truth (Persuasion)
Character believes that it's the truth (Persuasion)
Hiding their tracks:
Whether or not they're using deception to hide the fact that they started the rumor
2. When you have filled out the necessary information, the bot will then ask what the gossip is. Please ensure that you have the consent of all members involved!
3. You will be messaged by the bot, so make sure you are accepting DMs from the server, you can also message the bot before using any commands to ensure it's allowed to DM you. The bot will ask you what the character's modifier is for either deception or persuasion, both of which are skills associated with charisma.
4. The gossip is submitted to us. We check with all parties involved and set a DC based off of the believability of what you've submitted plus the character's modifier. There is no promise that your character will walk away from this consequence-free, so bear this in mind.
5. If your character attempts to hide their tracks, a ticket will be created with you and the owners, and you will be asked to roll for deception. This roll is later contested by another character's investigation roll. should any attempt to discover the source of the gossip.
Whether the responding characters believe a rumor is decided by rolling a d20 plus the character's insight (wisdom) modifier. This roll is contested by the rumormonger's deception/persuasion roll. Failure to meet the minimum roll doesn't mean that your character has to believe the rumor, but it does mean that they can't say for certain whether it is true or not.
Additionally, even if a failed dice roll claims otherwise, your character does not need to believe a rumor if it would be OOC for them to. However, this allowed exception should not be taken advantage of -- it is for characters who are close to the cat the rumormonger is targeting, or characters who have some actual reason to doubt it.
Although the name of the character spreading the rumor is listed, this is purely for OOC knowledge. Your character should not know unless you've rolled for it, it would be meta-gaming if you did this!
If your character wants to seek out the rumormonger, you can roll for investigation (intelligence). You should only roll for this if your character is trying to find the source of the rumor, since it means they are putting in the effort to find them, they are not guessing who it is.
Some situations means your character can roll for advantage.
If there is a character who is constantly spewing hate about another, and they spread a rumor about them, those closest to them and especially the victim may roll with advantage.
If the character is known for spreading rumors, those who are suspicious of them to begin with may roll with advantage.
If the rumor contains obscure details that only a few cats know about, those characters may roll with advantage.
There are other situations that may allow for an advantage, but it is best to double check with Jack or V instead of assuming that it would be allowed.
