Outsider Dens

Outsider dens are crucial shelters for clanless cats, offering safety, rest, and important benefits to their occupants. Once a month, a new den is discovered and randomized to an eligible outsider character who doesn’t already have a den. These dens vary in size, from space for a single cat to accommodations for up to five adult cats. 

Discovery & Allocation

• A new den is found each month.

• Only outsiders who have passed the latest activity check are eligible.

• The den is randomly allocated to one outsider who does not currently own a den.

Ownership & Challenges

• Once a den is claimed, the owner has a two-week grace period where no challenges can be made.

• After the grace period, other outsiders can challenge for the den.

• Challenges are 1v1 combat duels. If the challenging party is a group, they must choose a representative to fight; representatives can change between challenges but not during an ongoing challenge.

• To initiate a challenge, ping the current den owner in an OOC (Out of Character) chat and start an RP (roleplay) thread. If the den owner does not respond within a week, the den is forfeited. Similarly, if the challenger stops responding, they forfeit the challenge.

• The challenge RP must be completed within one month.

• Winning a challenge grants the victor a two-week grace period where no further challenges can be made.

Sizes & Benefits 

• Den sizes range from space for one adult cat to up to five adult cats. The den size determines the number of cats who can live there and enjoy its benefits.

• Only dens sized 2 or larger are suitable for raising a litter comfortably. A size 1 den can accommodate one adult and kits, but it is not ideal for families with two parents or large litters.

Benefits of having a den include:

• • Well-Rested Buff: Occupants receive a buff to their HP (+5 to their HP)

  • Reduced Illness Chance: For cats having kits in the den, the risk of illness for kits or the birther is reduced from 40% to 10%. This reduction applies at all stages as long as the family resides in the den.

  • Illness chance can be further reduced by herbal knowledge or by the time of year.

Submitting Dens

Yes, you can submit your own outsider dens! We use Planet Zoo to create these dens, so if you have the game, you’re welcome to design your own and submit them for consideration. However, we understand that Planet Zoo might not be accessible to everyone due to its cost. If you don't own the game, feel free to use other creative tools, or keep an eye out for raffles where you might win a game key!

Before submitting a den, consider the following:

Environment: When designing dens, please keep in mind that Odyssey takes place in Greece. The dens should reflect the natural aesthetic of the world.

 Submission Limits: While we appreciate all submissions, we may not be able to use every den. If we receive a significant number of submissions, there is a possibility of increasing the number of dens found each month to accommodate more community contributions, but if this changes game balance that wont be done.

Volunteer Submissions Not Required: This mechanic doesn’t rely on volunteer submissions—V ensures there is always at least one new den available each month. However, your creative input is always valued!
